Internet Woes

Lawrence didn't send out a mass email this week, but since I failed to post his letter from last week, I still have something to add to his blog. This letter is dated August 18th.

Dear Family,

Thank you so much for the e-mails!!! I was writing letters and had everything all nice but then the Internet crashed :( . I should start praying more to have successful Internet time seeing as I have yet to have an Internet session without problems of some sort or another. Anywho, this week has been pretty interesting. I gave a talk this Sunday about member missionary work. We talked to everyone to get them excited to come to church this Sunday. We had tons of people commited to coming to church and they all seemed pretty excited. The talk went well and I even brought the talk from San Martín in case I needed more material. My companion also spoke as well as our Ward Missionary Leader. It was pretty funny because the assistants both spoke in their ward as well so it was pretty much missionary day. This is like the third time the assistants have given talks since I've been in San Ignacio and it sounds like they might even have to talk again next Sunday because Elder Peralta is being transferred this Wednesday. We're all waiting in anticipation for tomorrow because we'll find out who else is being transferred. We might have new Zone Leaders or who knows what else might change but we're excited to find out. I hope I'll stay here since the members and the people in this area are amazing. Today especially because not only is it rare to receive lunch on P-day, mostly because it's hard to coordinate with P-day activities, but we're going to receive 2 lunches! One member is going to deliver it to our home while we'll go to pick up the other from another family. The people are just amazing here but it's sad sometimes because some of the most amazing people are less active and they deserve so much the blessings of activity in the church. I hope to help them return to church and we're working with them. We had them pretty commited to church this Sunday but one got sick and I'm not sure what happened with the other family. Well, I've got to write my letter to the President but I hope everyone has an amazing week!!! I love you all!!! Bye!!!

Love,

Elder Williams

Six Months Down!

Today, August 13, 2008 marks Lawrence's 6 month mark on the mission! This is a very big deal, because that makes him a quarter of the way through! We are loving hearing about his experiences and seeing how much he is growing, but as his family, we appreciate that he's reached this huge milestone. Once he does that three more times, we get to see our Lawrence again! Here's to Lawrence doing just as much good in the next six months!

Dear Family,

Thank you so much for the e-mails!!! It sounds like everyone's been having an amazing week with Girls' Vegetarian Camp (the girl's camp my mom and sister went to was owned by 7th day Adventists, who are vegetarians, so all the food for the week was meat free), new Idaho temple open-house, and poor Dad cooking his own meals for a week. The Olympics are pretty popular here too and supposedly the medal Argentina already won was Bronze in Judo, some type of karate. No one's told me about medals that the US has won but I have the feeling I'm not in friendly territory when it comes to that matter :) . This week was pretty crazy with the moving party. Since the assistants to the President have their P-days on different days than us we had to do a lot of the work separately. It took a lot of packing and some help from a member who has a Jeep to move our stuff to the other house. It has a bigger bathroom and, get this, HOT WATER!!! That's not to say that the other apartment didn't have hot water but rather this house has boiling-amazing water. Elder Smith was the first to take a shower and when he left the bathroom he was followed by this huge fog with enough vapor to cover Boston Harbor. I was quite excited. We also found a new investigator named Hugo who read the pamphlet of the Restoration twice and had a bunch of questions. He said, "Baptism is a very important step that you can't just take casually. I'm going to study to make sure I make the right choice." We're pretty excited. He had some good questions too, but we had some pretty good answers :) . He also brought up the scripture in Revelations about how you shouldn't add anything to "this book" and I wanted to bring the talk from Elder Holland but we answered his question well enough. Well the Internet Café is about to close but I'll be back in a few hours to write a little more. I love you all!!! Bye!!!

Love,
Elder Williams

Here's a picture of the old apartment (what a mess!) and us in the new one.

Here's a map of the area, we're in the half that doesn't have the chapel in it. The chapel's on the corner of America and Carlos Paz. We now live about four houses up from the corner of Chapanay and Chuquisaca.

Getting Ready to Move

Dear Family,
Thank you all so much for your e-mails!!! I'm sorry there aren't any pictures this week. I managed to keep from packing my camera so I could take pictures but then I forgot and the cable to upload the pictures is deep in my packed suitcase. At the very least there'll be more pictures next week if we've moved by then. So our new apartment is a house about 3 doors up the street from our former landlord (slightly ironic I know). It even has space for the other elders' car which will make things convenient. It's not quite as close to the chapel and the supermarket but it's only a few blocks more so I'm not complaining. That's so crazy that there was an earthquake in Chino Hills. I'm glad everyone was alright though I'm right there with you, Mom, mourning the patriotic plate. If it makes you feel better, I already had to buy two plates while I was in San Martín because I, um, let gravity get the best of me. At least the elders will enjoy two new plates and they weren't very expensive either, fortunately. This week we were "Opening Our Mouths" (Abrir la boca) a lot, looking for an apartment. We actually managed to find two others but they were pretty expensive when compared to the house we found. Plus they were really tiny so I'm happy with the other house (more space, cheaper, do I even need to think about it?). It the midst of packing, Elder Smith, who goes home at the end of this transfer, if I remember correctly (that's a few commas), was giving away some of the stuff he didn't want to take home and I managed to get a packet of Ranch dressing (which is amazing) and a scarf. We've also been visiting the Cobos family (recent converts) and teaching them how to pray. Before they were members of the church, they learned how to pray a little...um...differently. Fortunately they really want to know how to pray so they're practicing. Sorry if this e-mail's a little short but this is the first week in which we're e-mailing our letters to the President. It'll help him read letters faster and respond every week which will be nice for us to get a response every week as opposed to once every 6 weeks. Well I hope everyone is doing well and thank you again for the e-mails and pictures. I love you all!!! Bye!!!
Love,
Elder Williams
